Reports a couple days ago that one of Australia’s Twelve Apostles tumbled into the ocean were mistaken.

The Apostles are a set of  limestone sea stacks off Australia’s southern coast between Melbourne and Adelaide. They are a big attraction for tourists driving the Great Ocean Road. “It will always be the Twelve Apostles,” Parks Victoria spokeswoman Jo Curkpatrick told national broadcaster ABC on Saturday (September 26) when confirming the loss. “It remains unique, no matter how many Apostles come and go.”

The stone tower that collapsed was not an Apostle, but one of the Three Sisters, the Sydney Morning Herald reported yesterday. Heavy rain and swell were blamed for the collapse.

Fifteen years ago one of the biggest stacks collapsed, leaving a couple stranded on an island. They were picked up by helicopter.
