Contributors Guidelines

Coastalsurvey is a collaborative repository of stories, photos, links and videos from the Earth’s coastlines. This website is primarily concerned with budget surf travel, but also reports on independent travel, backpacking, the environment and oceans worldwide.

What We’re Looking For

Coastalsurvey is always looking for new material. Reports on surf destinations, selections from travel journals, photos, tips, stories about environmental programs, or profiles of people living and working on the coast are always welcome. We’re not interested in fatuous articles comparing five-star hotels, sponsor-funded surf junkets, or other forms of corporate puffery. We are interested in sharp, individual perspectives from surfers and other travelers exploring this planet.

What’s It Pay?

Nothing at the moment. Since this is a no-budget operation, Coastalsurvey can’t offer any actual money in return for these contributions. Whenever revenues exceed expenses, we can start to pay our contributors properly. Meanwhile any submissions we use will be treated with respect, i.e., light editing, bylines, photos given decent play, and links back to the contributor’s website.

Note that authors and photographers will retain all rights of resale to their material.

It’s also a great way to get noticed. In the past, contributors to Coastalsurvey have been hired by print magazines and found book contracts as a result of their work here.
