Global Surf Links

Once the solitary pursuit of a widely scattered tribe, surfing has been turned inside out by the web. In the 1980s loose communities of surfers began to form on the campuses where Usenet (user networks) was first adopted. By the early 1990s, Usenet forums like alt.surfing were bringing the word to the world. Suddenly, sodden weirdos from Austin to Auckland found each other and a common passion.

In 1993, with the introduction of the Mosaic browser, wired surfers could start sharing images and sounds over the web. Since then we’ve seen an an explosion of surfing information in the online world. Some of it is worthwhile, much of it is useless, and all of it is ephemeral.

Below is a curated list of links from that sea of information. The sites that are linked from Coastalsurvey are useful, unique, inspiring or otherwise notable. We’ll try to keep it up to date.
